The heat here is so intense that the AC compressor overheats and shuts off. The temperature outside is above 120F (48C) even in the shade. I tried to climb the iron staircase to go on the roof and check why our AC wasn’t working, but the staircase was so red-hot that it burned my hands. I took a bucket of water and climbed on the roof. Then I slowly poured water on the AC unit. The water completely evaporated after few minutes. But it was enough to cool down the compressor and the AC started working again bringing invigorating coolness to our overheated top floor apartment.
When we evangelize in the parks, curious passers-by stop and the crowd grows quickly. We come to people and begin to preach the Gospel to them. Ten minutes later, the crowd around us grew much bigger than at the beginning. All people take invitations to our church and start reading the New Testaments they just received.
Unfortunately we forgot to take a water bottle. Our lips stuck with thirst and our heads were aching from the heat. We tried to stay in the shade, but even the shadow of the trees doesn’t help much. Our spirit rejoices, but the body suffers.
During the outreach we met an auto driver, and while preaching the Gospel we asked him, “Are you holy? Don’t you have any sins?” He showed us his driver’s license and proudly said, “Yes! I am holy”. It turned out that his name was Pavitra, which means “Holy” in Hindi. But still there was found a sin in his “righteous” life. He admitted that he was cheating his customers. So our “holy” driver still had to repent.
We went to the foothills of the Himalayas where we led a pastor’s conference and there was a water baptism service also. Pastors came from the remote mountain locations. They were so excited to receive the Word, great inspiration, and new revelations. They came thanking us and saying that they never heard anything like what we preached.
On Sunday we continued to preach in the church. There was no AC, so our portable projector was not able to turn on in that kind of heat. But at the time of praise and worship, something happened and it started working. With God everything is possible!
It was difficult to find a place for water baptism. The mountain rivers have dried up and turned into shallow muddy streams. Finally our team found a place which had water deep enough for baptism. The stones on the banks of the dried up river were hot like they’ve been in an oven. I started taking pictures of the baptism on my iPhone, but the phone quickly overheated and switched off. Equipment can’t take this heat! I don’t understand how people are still able to operate?!
It’s been a couple of months since we’ve been in India. As our mission trip continues on we ask you to please continue to pray for us. Pray that God would strengthen us physically so we can operate normally in this crazy heat. Pray also for our finances. Summer is a vacation time and less donations are coming in, but God’s work must continue. We thank God that we can see His miracles and His work in all the conferences and services that we had. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3: 20–21)
